East London GC
East London, Eastern Cape, South Africa
In a rather poor field and without much previous course form to go on, I was going to avoid making any selections going into this week. This idea was supported by the fact that in poor fields in the last two Tour events (both in South Africa) the winner has been priced at 100s or over. However, at the same time this also inspired me to look through the field and see if i could find some each way value in some of bigger priced runners.....
Michael Hoey- The East London has a links feel about it and Hoey is a player who appeals to me due to his respectable 19th place finish in the Dunhill Links, had it not been for his final round of 74 then he could have really been up there challenging. I also find it hard to comprehend how Hoey is available in the 50s when he placed 2nd on this course last year. He may not quite be in the treble figures but this price represents value in my opinion. 1pt e/w @ 56/1 (Bet365, totesport)
Marc Cayeux - The Zimbabwean plays his golf on the Sunshine Tour and had 5 top 15s under his belt in 2009, he also boasts three visits to the East London reading 8th (2000), mc (2001) and 15th (2009). The thing that interests me in his past course form is that in 2009 he was tied 9th going into his final round before posting a disappointing 74, 68/66/69 shows he knows how to play this course. 0.5pts e/w @ 125/1 (totesport, Betfred, Coral)
